Katherine Isbister directs the Social Emotional Technology Lab https://setlab.soe.ucsc.edu/. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. from Stanford University, and completed a one-year postdoc at NTT in Japan. Chris has been involved in technical/creative professions for most of his life. Starting his university studies in pure Math he graduated as an architect, then retrained as a furniture maker and worked for ten years as an independent designer/maker in Scotland. Moving to the US in 1989 he added a Master’s in product design and subsequently pursued a successful design career in North Carolina and California before being hired by Sun Microsystems as a senior digital modeler and animator.
