Caroline (Coco) Picard is a writer, cartoonist, and curator who investigates interspecies borders, how the human relates to its environment, and what possibilities emerge when upending an anthropocentric worldview. Her novel, The Healing Circle (Red Hen Press, 2022), won the 2020 Women’s Prose Award. She is the author of The Strangers Among Us (Astrophil Press, 2017) and The Chronicles of Fortune (Radiator Comics, 2017). Art criticism and comics have otherwise appeared in places like Artforum, Hyperallergic, Square Cylinder, and the Chicago Reader, where her comics-based interviews won the 2022 Innovative/Format Buster Alt Weekly Award and a 2025 Lisagor Award. She founded the Green Lantern Press in 2005 and served as its Executive Director until it was adopted by the Hyde Park Art Center in 2022. She has curated exhibitions at UIC’s Gallery 400, The Renaissance Society, La Box, ENSA, Bourges, and more. From 2014-2019, she co-directed Sector 2337 and served as the coeditor for the University of Minnesota's Art after Nature series from 2017-2025. She completed an MPhil in Tibetan and Himalayan Studies at the University of Oxford in 2025 and presently works as the Associate Publisher at City Lights.
