Graduate

Digital Arts Research Center

Art Department

Working primarily in video, sound, installation, and text, Maybee explores the nature of language and communication, ecological and environmental justice concerns of a linear economy, labor, and deep time. She is interested in re-wilding mythologies to explore how dissociation from our own life cycles lies at the root of our cultural hyper-obsession with efficiency, necessitating dependence on a linear, fossil fuel economy. Her current research employs sensory ecology to investigate plant, insect, fungi, and animal communication as an imaginative practice for knowledge-production and transfer in climate organizing and liberatory efforts.

Maybee received her B.A. in Geography, Visual & Media Arts Practice, and Linguistics at the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia.
