Inês is a Portuguese nonfiction filmmaker, editor, and researcher. She is originally from Lisbon, Portugal, but is currently based in/between San Francisco and Santa Cruz, CA. Her research-creation work is interested in the promise of archival cinema as a form of intimate engagement with history, and her film work attempts to address ideas of temporality, agency, and visibility within the archive through speculative, ethnographic, and hybrid engagements with the nonfiction form.
Her short films have screened in film festivals in the US, Europe, Asia, and South America. Her short film Home, Revised (2022), a meditation-manifesto on the process of working with and appropriating home movie archives from her home country, won the Fernando Lopes Award for Best Portuguese First Film in the 2022 edition of Doclisboa. She was also one of the ten filmmakers selected to participate in European Film Promotion's FUTURE FRAMEs program at the 2023 edition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and was a 2022-2023 SFFILM FilmHouse filmmaker-in-residence. Her most recent short film The dark knot at the center (2026), produced as part of her dissertation research on feminist speculative documentary film practices, will be having its World Premiere at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival.
Inês has a BA in Communication Sciences, majoring in Cinema and Television Studies (2015) and an MA in Anthropology, Specialization in Visual Cultures (2022) from NOVA University of Lisbon, and an MFA in Documentary Film & Video Production (2019) from Stanford University. Her work has received financial and artistic support from SFFILM (2022-2023) and ICA (Institute for Cinema and Audiovisual, Portugal) (2022-2024), and from the "la Caixa" (2023-2025), FLAD (2024) and the Calouste Gulbenkian (2018-2019) foundations.
