Amy Reid is a filmmaker and Ph.D. Candidate at the University of California, Santa Cruz, in the Film and Digital Media Department. Reid's theory/practice dissertation,"Feminist Relationality in the Americas: Women's Practices in Filmmaking & Quilting," considers the aesthetic and political practices of feminist filmmakers from the long 1970s in relation to her own filmmaking and work as a film programmer. The histories Reid is examining in the realms of filmmaking, screening cultures, and distribution from the 70s inform her current film "Grandmother's Garden," an experimental feature 16mm film about women, quilting, and US history, along with an ongoing collaborative film program series, Gravitational Lensing: Feminist Film Dialogues at Shapeshifters Cinema in Oakland, CA.
